King of ’94 – NHL 94 & NBA JAM (SNES & SEGA)

Tournament Description

King of 94 is the world championship tournament for the video game NHL’94. There are separate tournaments on the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Players have travelled from all across North America to compete and can play in one or both tournaments. The winner of each tournament is crowned the “King of 94” and receives a trophy and large cash prize. 2nd and 3rd place finishers are also awarded cash prizes. This year we have added Duke of 94 tournaments with more casual rules.

History

This tournament was started in 2015 by Mike McBryan while he was filming his documentary about NHL’94 titled “Pixelated Heroes”. He hosted a tournament at Real Sports Bar in Toronto that had 128 entries. Since that time, two more world championship tournaments have taken place in Las Vegas (2017) and Vancouver (2018).
